Benefits from PIER for my career (Cooperation of DESY and Universität Hamburg): I won a prestige scholarship for three years of my PhD study, which included 9.000 euro for scientific travels and stays. This was a great experience to be part of the collaboration between University of Hamburg and DESY. Beside, I benefited from: • Soft skill courses about an effective CV, to improve the visibility of my skills in the resume. • Workshops about networking and job hunting • Yearly PIER Graduate workshops to get to know other PhD students and share the knowledge. • On-campus German courses in the evening, from A1 to B2 levels. • Short scientific (but also fun) trips. • Woman career days

My personal advice for all PhD students: 3.5 years is very short for a PhD project. But what helps the most is a good planning. Plan weekly on Monday for the week. Start with simple examples and then improve your work step by step. Get benefit from the knowledge of your adviser and do not invent the wheel on your own again! Give it a try and do not underestimate your abilities when deadlines are approaching. Explore your limits! There is a lot of time to relax after defense! Once you attend the graduation party, what is left in your memory is just the joy of those past days. All the best for all of you!
