Benefits from PIER for my career (Cooperation of DESY and Universität Hamburg): The soft skill courses that were part of the PIER graduate weeks were really useful and helped me a lot with improving my presentation skills. I really liked the graduate weeks in general because it was a good way to learn about other research fields. PIER also provided a significant amount financial support for several conference that I attended.

My personal advice for all PhD students: Find opportunities to improve or learn new skills even if they are not directly required for your PhD project, for example, with soft skills or programming courses.
