Jakob Gollwitzer, PhD student at DESY, received a PIER travel grant and went to the Nuclear Resonant Scattering workshop at the Advanced Photon Source in Chicago. Here is his report.

In November 2016 I had the opportunity to attend the Nuclear Resonant Scattering workshop at the Advanced Photon Source in Chicago. The workshop was very interesting and useful for development of my doctoral thesis project. Instruction on how to use the software which interprets Nuclear Resonant Scattering data has enabled me to successfully analyze Data obtained at the beamline P01 at PETRAIII. Additionally, the workshop was an excellent opportunity to get to know PhD students working at foreign universities. Not only did we have the opportunity to exchange ideas and present our research topics to each other, but I feel we also started friendships that can be continued at future workshops and conferences. I am very grateful to PIER for make this trip and this experience possible for me.
