A Graduate Education Program of Universität Hamburg in Cooperation with DESY
Thursdays, from 19 October 2017
The PhD representatives DOIT (Doktoranden-Initiative) are organizing an improvisation theatre course for the coming winter term 2017/18.
After the successful start of the improv theatre course in autumn 2016, the class continues in 2017. The registration is open to all science PhD students on Bahrenfeld campus and the number of participants is limited (first-come-first-serve basis).
The idea of the course is that impro theatre techniques can help us in challenging situations in life and work situations such as job interviews, scientific presentations, group discussions and even conference dinners. How can we be our authentic selves and give the best impression? What if we are tongue-tied because of our fear of saying the wrong thing? What if there was no wrong thing?
Theatre improv pioneer Keith Johnstone created games and techniques to prepare actors to be more spontaneous and in-the-moment and to be less afraid of their audience. This course will use adapted improv theatre games and role plays for academic scientists’ needs.
The course is practical in which each of us is not a witness but a participant so be prepared to move around, practice new games, and challenge shyness and fears. Please wear comfortable clothing and be ready for some fun.
